Experience: 2012 is my fifth year volunteering with NYC UXPA and third year as President. Audience surveys indicate that the policies we've implemented around event preparation continue to pay off, with an average rating of 4.3 (out of a possible 5) in 2011, up from 3.6 in 2010. We continue to add value to our membership via networking exercises, Saturday workshops, and a talk dedicated exclusively to accessibility for the deaf. Our commitment to networking also remains strong, by providing an environment where those who are new to the industry can interact with those who are more experienced. I am also proud of our continued relationships with Blooomberg, Pace University, and Chase, plus new relationships including EuroRSCG, RAPP, and Second Market.
Vision: A major focus for 2012-2013 will be on cultivating the leadership skills of our volunteers. As our chapter has increased in visibility and reputation, we now need more help managing sponsorships, accessibility, finances, and more. Our senior officers are now mentoring the next generation of volunteers, and we are defining the way a person's involvement can be best represented on a resumé. We will also be working with the national UPA to tighten the relationship between the national and local level.

Ruth's LinkedIn Profile
Statement: I've been an active volunteer for several years and served on the (formerly "NYC UPA") Advisory Board for the past 3 years. I’ve managed hospitality for events, updated the organization’s website, and written copy for event promotions. I started out as a reporter but for the past 10 years, I've focused on content management and strategy, most recently implementing a social, collaborative Intranet in a large corporation. I’ve held several leadership roles in a local chapter of Toastmasters International (most recently as president). In fact, my experience in public speaking has proven useful when I’ve assisted in reviewing NYC UXPA speaker presentations. Now that our chapter is 10 years old, I look forward to helping us define what we focus on next particularly as our profession matures.

Statement: As someone with an MBA who has a fine arts degree and works as a UX strategist, I believe I bring a unique perspective to the position of Treasurer. I’ve been an active volunteer, serving as a member of the Advisory Board since 2005, and I’ve been your chapter's Treasurer for the past four years, continuing responsible stewardship over our association's finances. As our chapter expands even more, I welcome the opportunity to continue to serve as Treasurer of this vibrant user experience community!
