Asi Burak is Co-President of
Games for Change. In his role there, he leads on the development of programs to raise the quality and influence of social impact games, and co-produces the Annual Games for Change Festival, the largest gaming event in New York.
For partners including USAID, The World Bank, American Museum of Natural History, and Pulitzer Prize-winning NYT columnist Nicholas Kristof (“Half the Sky”), he is guiding the investment of $8 million into new game projects.
For his work at G4C, Burak was named one of the “Digital 25: Leaders in Emerging Entertainment” by the Producers Guild of America (PGA) and
Variety.

For more that fifteen years, Mark has been principal of Worldstudio, the New York City marketing and design agency which serves major clients in the for-profit and not-for-profit worlds, from JPMorgan Private Bank, Estée Lauder Companies, Adobe Systems and Reed Elsevier, to the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, True Majority and the City of New York. Worldstudio’s work has won leading industry awards and been featured in books on graphic design and in publications such as
Metropolis, Graphics International and
Eye. Mark and Worldstudio have been twice selected for the prestigious “ID Forty” award, an annual listing of leading innovators in the design industry chosen by
ID: The Magazine of International Design. Mark is also president of the Worldstudio Foundation, the first nonprofit in the U.S. devoted exclusively to encouraging social responsibility in the design and arts professions.

Author of
Storytelling for User Experience, Whitney is also the leader of the UPA Usability in Civic Life project and has served on two federal advisory committees. She has written new accessibility regulations for "Section 508" and created usability and accessibility guidelines for voting systems. In her professional life, she works with the web team at the National Cancer Institute, where in addition to public information projects, she has helped develop information tools to address gaps in cancer research. One example is AccrualNet, aimed at helping clinical trial staff use research evidence to improve recruiting and retention to cancer treatment trials.

desigNYC is a nonprofit with the mission of improving lives of New Yorkers through the power of good design. ESI Design is a leading experience design consultancy known for creating innovative social spaces that encourage conversation, collaboration, and action, including the award-winning Dream Cube for 2010 World Expo that invites the people of Shanghai to collaboratively compose their vision for a sustainable future. Michelle has also consulted for the global humanitarian design organization, Architecture for Humanity, as well as the San Francisco Department of the Environment’s Green Business Certification Program.

Katrin is the co-founder and editor of MobileActive.org, a global network of practitioners using mobile phones for social impact. Katrin is currently working on mobile projects in governance, accountability, and political participation in emerging democracies. She is also leading a team focused on mobile security tools. She has previously led several nonprofit organizations, including as the Executive Director of NTEN: The Nonprofit Technology Network, which is a national association of IT professionals working in the more than one million nonprofit organizations in the United States. Katrin is also the editor of Managing Technology to Meet Your Mission, published by Wiley & Sons.

All registration activities are handled by our volunteers. Please be advised that on the day of the event our primary focus will be on day-of-event logistics. We are not able to address refund/transfer requests submitted on the day of the event.
Regular registration closes at noon Wednesday Nov 9, 2011. If any tickets are left at that point, we will open Late Registration from noon Wednesday Nov 9 until 1PM Thursday Nov 10, or until tickets sell out, whichever occurs first.
Refund & transfer requests will be accepted until noon Wednesday November 9. Send requests to RSVP@nycupa.org.
Seating Capacity & Wait Lists
Seating capacity changes with every venue. If an event sells out beforehand, a wait list may be set up and managed by us on a discretionary basis. Signing up on the wait list does not guarantee a seat; we'll do our best to keep wait-listers informed about the status of available seating.
