The Highline Story: Transforming Railroad Track to a Park in the Sky (Keynote)
Peter Mullan, Director of Planning, Friends of the Highline
Since 2000, Peter Mullan, architect and environmental advocate, has championed the Highline park, created from deserted railroad track. The Highline now serves as a park with foliage local to NYC, plus a home to hotels, restaurants, and an educational venue. Peter will talk about the history of the Highline and its future, and the challenge of creating a rich user experience that has the amenities people seek while maintaining the integrity of a sustainable environment.

Fostering Social Entrepreneurs: Pratt Design Incubator for Sustainable Innovation
Debera Johnson, Director of Pratt’s Design Incubator for Sustainable/Social Enterprise will introduce the Incubator and showcase three “incubees” who are building businesses based on social responsibility.

Beto Lopez, Senior Designer leading IDEO’s sustainability initiatives, will talk about the design principles IDEO employs to integrate sustainability in product design in an authentic way.

Closing Remarks
Liz Danzico, Chair of the School of Visual Art’s new Masters in Interaction Design program, will provide an overview of the program and its approach to innovation and social responsibility.
